Recently it is becoming increasingly challenging to know what is real. We live in a time of extreme excess. Too much input, too busy, too fast. We can have whatever we want, whenever we want it, but what do we want? This is a question I found myself asking while trying to constantly filter what is real from what is just noise. This series of paintings has grown out of months of soul-searching. It focuses on simple realities; the day-to-day, the mundane. These works are an attempt to remind myself to focus on what matters, of what is real when it seems like the world is spinning too fast. What is real may not always be what is most exciting, but it is true and it is what grounds us. Through my work I am trying to intentionally stop and appreciate the simple things that often get ignored in our hectic lives.
